An impressive four centuries of experience in Europe led the family run Spanish winery, Raventós Codorníu, to seek out and expand to the great 'terroirs' of the New World. After carefully assessing different areas, the family chose Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, in Mendoza, Argentina, for its unbeatable characteristics to make world-class fine wines. Constructed in 2001, the winery itself sits in the foothills of the Andes Mountains at 1,050 meters above sea level.
This award winning Malbec is one of our best-sellers and is a brilliant example of this variety. Packed with character with plenty of rich flavours, it is a superb all-round wine.
Scoring 93 points from wine critic James Suckling, this is Codorniu's flagship Malbec and is a step up on their standard Malbec taking it into the 'Fine Wine' category. It is a blend of several vineyards of which Septima own approx. 185 hectacres in the Finca Vistaflores, Los Arboles and La Consulta districts. They combine to produce this superb wine which is aged for 10 -18 months in oak. It is a real credit to the winemaker, Paula Borgio.
This is a classic wine made up of Malbec (50%) Cabernet Sauvignon (38%) and Tannat (12%) (approximately) by wine maker Paula Borgio. Hand-picked from the vineyards of Vistaflores and Finca, then vinified under controlled conditions for 25 days to extract maximum flavours and colours. Aged in American and French Oak for approx 18 months - the result a superb, complex wine that is really enjoyable.
On a par with top Gran Reserva Riojas.
Known for its excellent Sauvignon Blancs, New Zealand enjoys great conditions for growing and making many of the other cooler climate wines too, such as Pinot Noir. Angus and Davina Thomson have dedicated their lives to producing more individual wines are totally committed to biodynamics, organic farming and giving back to the environment and land that sustains them.
Peppers (capsicum) and passion fruit are evident in this richer than average Sauvignon Blanc. The palate also abounds with fresh lemons and other citrus fruits whilst still being restrained and delivering a long, rich finish. There is something about the finish that leaves you wanting more and somehow, the bottle seems to empty itself! ABV 12.5%
Perhaps our favourite of the superb range from Urlar, the Pinot Gris is opulent, soft and very rounded. Lightly spiced Thai-style food works really well with Urlar Pinot Gris as does confit of belly pork, gratin dauphinoise and even fish and chips. It is also really good as an aperitif or pre-dinner wine. ABV 12.5%
A very Burgundy style Pinot Noir, Urlar have again combined New World with old. This is everything you would expect from this superb variety with gentle, spicy peppery flavours. A fabulous food wine that delivers far more than the price suggests. ABV 13%
